John Edwards in South Carolina Today at Poll Location (w/ Video)

I want to share a video from NCDem Amy who is in South Carolina volunteering for John Edwards. The video shows John Edwards this morning.

From Amy:

Just saw John at a polling location where he stopped in to greetsupporters and was mobbed by the media

I have a few Edwards news stories after the fold, including his views on Bill Clinton campaigning for Hillary.

More after the fold.

A Report from SC in the New York Times:

Mr. Edwards began his day with a morning stop at a cafe in Mount Pleasant, outside Charleston, where he shook hands with diners and posed for pictures. Speaking to reporters in front of the café, he called Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama "two candidates who are devoting all their time and energy to tearing each other down."

And he vowed to continue in his bid for the Democratic nomination, no matter what the result of the South Carolina primary. "I'm keeping moving no matter what," he said.

Later in the morning, Mr. Edwards stopped at a polling station in Columbia, accompanied by Leon Howard, a South Carolina state representative who has endorsed Mr. Edwards.

In an appearance on the "Today" show Saturday morning, Mr. Edwards called himself "way the underdog" and said he believed the circumstances of the race have changed this week.

"I think things have shifted some this week, because of what happened in the debate and what's happened subsequently with a lot of the petty squabbling that's come from the others," Mr. Edwards said. "I think what people in South Carolina seem to be responding to is that I'm talking about them and the things that affect their lives, like jobs and health care."

And here's what John Edwards thinks about Bill Clinton campaigning for Hillary.

"My basic view about this is that I don't like the personal fighting back and forth, between candidates or between spouses," Edwards said in an interview aboard his campaign bus. "But it is very hard for me. I believe that spouses have the right to speak their minds. In his case, he happens to be an ex-president. But my wife Elizabeth speaks her mind. And I think they're entitled to do that. It's a democracy. That's the way it works. People can agree or disagree with what they say, but they're not required to go home and sit around and be quiet. That's just the way I view it."

Edwards will fight on for our cause:

"This is not about me or my personal ambition," he said. "It's about the cause and the voices who are not heard...And so their voice is going to get heard. It's going to get heard through me, no matter what those two [Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton] do."

The fight for real change continues today in South Carolina.

The cause continues as the celebrity candidates squabble and lose themselves in attacks!

Keep the faith (none / 0)

A second place by Edwards will re-make the race.

Re: John Edwards in South Carolina (1.00 / 1)

It is time for John to get out of the fight and endorse the most viable candidate for change: Barrack Obama.

Nice video, Tom.  Cheers to Amy and all the other folks working hard for the cause today!

Something to think about... (2.00 / 5)

From SC.

Need some food for thought...?

After the Edwards caravan leaves, James Dockins stands across the street inside his convenience store, Smokies, talking about life in the Homeland Park community. "These people have it tough. I have it tough as a store owner." No jobs, not many sales at the store. "We run a big credit because of it. I try to help out people, and it broke me."

He takes a seat on a stool at the pinball machine. Most of the people who came to the rally probably walked, he surmises. Not many of them have cars. A lot of folks had to sell their cars; some were repossessed.

Dockins has had his own setback -- a terrible heart attack a while back. He collapsed on the wooden floor of his store, and paramedics revived him three separate times. He was dead, and brought back to life.

Now, he is sipping a grape soda. Slowly. Don't underestimate the power of prayer, he says.

"It might be what this country needs -- somebody to pray for it."

He didn't attend the Edwards rally, doesn't get involved in politics -- "that's how you make enemies" -- but he watched from a distance. And from a distance, he was impressed. Maybe there is something to this John Edwards.

"John Edwards had that big a following, especially in this neighborhood? It's surprising," Dockins says.

Surprising.

Re: John Edwards in South Carolina Today at Poll L (none / 0)

I was surprised to read on FirstRead today that Edwards has spent more money in TV Ads in SC than Obama and Clinton combined.  That would seem to raise the stakes for him today.

As my g/f says... (2.00 / 3)

"I can't believe I have to defend myself for supporting a white southern male over a woman and an African American".

She is also a member of the Womens Political Caucus.

Last time she supported Carol Mosley Braun (sp?) partly because she was a woman and an African American. (By the way, my g/f is white)
